Traveling in the Poconos: Skytop Lodge Visit

Earlier in the summer, I visited the Poconos with my oldest child and my mom. We spent the first two days at Silver Birches Resort – we loved this cozy vintage resort in Hawley, Pennsylvania. After a delicious lunch at the Dock on Lake Wallenpaupauck, we traveled to Skytop Lodge. It was a beautiful drive (more about that later) that I really enjoyed.

Our first stop, even before we checked into Skytop, was the ropes course.

My oldest child was a little nervous but was able to complete practically the whole thing. Colleen from Souffle Bombay and her husband kept an eye on him for me, as I watched from the ground.

Then we headed over to Skytop Lodge. This is the main building and it was absolutely stunning.

We stayed in one of the cottages. Each cottage offers four guest rooms with shared hallway (no common area), featuring private baths, porches, small refrigerators and TV/VCRs. This was very cozy and the perfect place to lay our heads for the night. We parked right outside the cottage and drove up to the main building for most of our activities.

I appreciated the lobby of the main building. It had a comfy, stately feel. I felt the history in this room.

There are tons of activities to do at Skytop Lodge.

The grounds were amazing. Lots of room to sit and chill on the large back porch.

And plenty of places to stroll – or let the kids run wild. There was even a play structure for kids.

My mother and son loved strolling around the beautiful gardens.

What I really liked is that the pool was completely enclosed — you needed to go through the indoor pool area to get to the outside part (there was a large fence around it, so little ones couldn’t wander in).

We really enjoyed dining at the Windsor Dining Room – which is the main restaurant at Skytop Lodge. Everything was sheer perfection and our server was terrific.

While we enjoyed delicious food, my son enjoyed the typical kid fare — a hot dog and french fries, followed by ice cream for dessert.

After an evening activity of S’mores, we headed back to our room at the cottage.
The next morning we had a rough start, but ended up going for a late breakfast back at Windsor Grill. Their brunch was amazing.

We packed up and then headed back to the main building for lunch at the Taproom.

This definitely was a lower-key vibe than the Windsor Dining Room and the staff was also very accommodating.

We said goodbye to Skytop Lodge and headed back to the city, grateful for our Poconos mini tour.
